Have a Go Heroes in het Kasteel, KOM KIJKEN

Hey Vrienden

We zijn heel erg trots te mogen laten weten dat wij op vrijdag 25 januari a.s. in het kasteel in Alphen a/d Rijn mogen openen voor een toch wel erg toffe band. Namelijk Silkstone.

We hopen dat jullie allemaal komen kijken.
Via de website van het kasteel (www.hetkasteel.nl) kun je kaartjes kopen voor maar €5,-. Op de avond zelf kun je kaartjes aan de deur kopen voor €7,-

Het is een tryout voor hun cd presentatie in Paradiso op 7 februari. Kom dus een voorproefje nemen van deze avond.

Helemaal om uit je dak te gaan

Zondag op maandag nacht is Have a Go Heroes gedraaid op 3FM. De splinternieuwe DJ Henk van Steeg heeft onze drummer terug gebeld naar aanleiding van een SMSje en heeft na wat kort vragen ook nog een flink stuk 'Precious Pain' gedraaid.

Om deze week dan ook maar helemaal af te maken kan ook melden dat we eind deze maand in het voorprogramma van de band Silkstone staan. Nog geen twee dagen nadat ik dat nieuws kreeg kom ik de naam ook weer overal tegen.
Deze week kan nu al niet meer kapot.

Wat een SHYTE

We hebben met Have a Go Heroes meegedaan aan een bandcontest voor een plaats op de soundtrack van een nieuwe film genaamd Deal. De voorronde waar we aan mee zouden doen zou plaats vinden in JC dynamo in Eindhoven. Alle elnde begon al met de inschrijving. We kregen een reactie dat we te laat ingeschreven hadden om deel te kunnen nemen. Omdat ik zeker wist dat alles op tijd verstuurd was (zowel via de mail als via de post) heb ik toch even contact opgenomen waarop we alsnog geplaats werden omdat onze cd te lang bij hun intern was blijven liggen.

De wedstrijd dag was afgelopen zondag, vrijdag kregen we een telefoontje dat vanwege organisatorische problemen was verplaatst naar een tent genaamd Electron. Dit zouden al genoeg tekenen aan de muur moeten zijn. Ook bleek dat vrijwel alle andere bands van de categorie snoei hard en harder waren. (in tegenstelling tot sommige andere avonden). Naïef genoeg nam ik aan dat dit niks uit zou maken alhoewel mijn voorgevoel anders was.

Omdat het optreden op het laatst verplaatst was waarvan op site van Deal geen acte (stelletje prutsers) wist ik al dat er echt geen publiek zou komen naar deze avond.

Daar aangekomen bleek Electron een oud industrie pand te zijn waar een kunst groepering in zat. Er was geen podium, dus alle spullen werden opgebouwd op de grond aan een kant van de hal. De apparatuur was of goedkoop, of krakkemikkig en afgeragd en voldeed zeker niet aan wat ons was beloofd over de telefoon. Tegen beter weten zijn we toen niet omgedraaid en naar huis gegaan.

Het geluid in de zaal was zo vreselijk slecht dat er van de bands voor ons eigenlijk niks definieerbaars te horen was. Ook toen zijn we niet naar huis gegaan (stom, stom, stom). Het podium geluid (dat wil zeggen het geluid op dat stukje beton waar wij stonden te spelen) was zo vreselijk slecht dat we gedurende ons opreden niet konden horen wat we zelf of de anderen deden. Ik geloof dat er niet een speaker niet overstuurde. De monitors waren ook geen monitors, maar veel te lichte speakers die volgens mij Hifi waren ipv PA. Dus ook dat was KUT.

Door alle VRESELIJK SLECHTE AMATEURISTISCHE ORGANISATIE was ik al opgefokt genoeg. Maar door het kut geluid ging ik helemaal over de rooie. We hebben belachelijk veel fouten gemaakt.

Dit was echt de laatste keer dat we een KUT show als dit doen. De volgende keer draaien we om en gaan we naar huis, de kroeg, de film, whatever, maar we spelen niet. Echte een trieste tering zooi. Ik baal niet eens dat we niet gewonnen hebben omdat ik echt geen tweede optreden op deze manier zou willen doen.

Do you know the feeling that you have to move so carfull each step you make. Like one misstep will make you fall down. That is how I feel right now. But at the same time I just know I cant stop walking. Each time that I feel like I found some footing it disappears.

So why the depressing intro?

Today we had a meeting with Joost, the booker of ‘het kasteel’. He is still willing to help us out, but only in the prize we won. A opening act for a already established Dutch act. Today we learned that the first upcoming chance is at least a year away. We really needed this gig as a selling point o our resume. But I’m not realy planning to wait on it for at least a year. In that time I hope that we have build enough of a name to have others open for us. So it is starting to look like that the Rijn en Wouden Popprijs is going to be a humongous disappointment after all. I’m going to contact them to see if there is anything they CAN do for us, but I must admit that I’m loosing hope.

Of course there is not just all bad news.

On 16 December we are competing for a place in the soundtrack of the Movie ‘Deal!’. It’s a movie that will be show all over the Netherlands and the soundtrack will be available in stores all around the Netherlands. There will be two bands that will progress to the next round. One chosen by a Jury. That Jury will consist of the writers of the movie and some other people. The other band will receive a wildcard by popular vote, the audience choice.

The contest will be held in Jc Dynamo in Eindhoven. The doors will open at 20:00.

There is also a verry special gig. Not so long ago we played the Moonstock festival in Kaffee Lambiek in Tilburg. Steve, who works there behind the bar, really liked us. So much that he has invited us to play at his birthday party in that same Café. Usually we don’t play private parties, but as it turns out this isn’t a private party.

The café will be open for everyone. So all off you are welcome as well. The party will be at 22 February and the doors open at 21:00.

And than there are our diabolical plans of course. We want to realease our new cd in may 2008. Of course we have to tackle the small problem of writing it first. It’s supposed to be our first full cd. We hope to find a producer to help us out and if we’re lucky a label that will do our A&R or maby even our production. So if you know anyone who does whatever in the music business, put them on our track (and us on theres)

When everything is ready to go we nead a mail squadron as large as we can get it to Bombard special targets (radio stations), one at a time, with requests. At the same time we will start with our publicity bureau to get the attention of the media and we will start promo actions at concerts of bands we think have an audience that can appreciate our music.

For the purpose of the promo teams and the mail squadron we are looking for volunteers.

We are also looking for other great idea’s to increase our brand awareness (brand being our bandname)

It seems we will be calling for help for quite a few times before we will final achieve our goal.

On a other note. Gert also reads my LJ, and he was verry moved by your replies to my posts on the band.

Four Weels

Na een lang overleg waarin alle pro’s en con’s overwogen zijn hebben de Heroes gisteren avond (28-10) besloten om geen vervanging voor Jasper te gaan zoeken.

Iedereen kent vast de spreuk over het vijfde wiel aan de wagen. Wij ook, en vier wielen zijn meer dan genoeg voor onze bolide. Het heeft aardig wat tijd, wikken en wegen gekost, maar we zijn uiteindelijk tot een besluit en actie plan gekomen. We gaan geen vervanging zoeken voor Jasper omdat we ervan overtuigd zijn met vier man kunnen staan als een huis. Natuurlijk betekent het dat we kritisch moeten gaan kijken naar al onze huidige arrangementen maar dat hebben we er graag voor over.

Arnie gaat de lead partijen voor zijn rekening nemen en Gert en Geert gaan meer vrijheid en initiatieven nemen in hun partijen. De nieuwe cd waar we mee bezig zijn gaat meteen onze testcase zijn. De opname voor deze cd gaan wel wat meer tijd in beslag nemen vanwege het herzien van de arrangementen. Ook gaan we in alles ‘up a notch’. We gaan harder trekken aan nieuwe optredens, serieuzer aan het werk met opnames, meer promotie activiteiten opzetten, enz, enz.
Het is de bedoeling dat we in Februari 2008 weer volop knallen, dus houdt de site in de gaten voor meer nieuws. We hopen tegen die tijd jullie allemaal te verblijden met the new and improved, easy on the eyes and ears Have a Go Heroes.

Tevens willen we iedereen bedanken voor al jullie supporting mails en berichten die we de afgelopen week hebben mogen ontvangen. Dat geeft echt een fantastisch gevoel.

Exit Stage Left ( The Things I really want to say)

Many of you might have read the latest article ‘Exit stage left’ on our website www.haveagoheroes.com. It is about our former guitar player Jasper and is in fact very flattering to him. We try to not tell about the reasons why we did kick his pathetic scrawny ass out of the band. Of course it is not fitting to trash someone on your official site and we will not stoop to that level, but this isn’t our official site, this is my LJ and here I can write whatever the Fuck (yep, this is one of those articles) I want to write.

Jasper has been an arrogant basterd ever since the first day I met him. He is one of those people who gets away with to much and as a result of that only tries to get away with more. Over five years ago it was Jasper who founded the band Six. (the very, very first name of our band) He was supposed to be the lead guitarist, singer, songwriter of this band. This is right at the start the firs bullshit he sold. Because in all those years he has never written or sung a song, and most of his lead guitar parts are written for him in stead of by him. Jasper very soon build a reputation for himself as someone who never ever comes in time, but back than four of the six band members drove in each week together.

Jasper was always annoying and aggravating Gert who stepped in where Jasper failed (as singer/songwriter of the band). This out of jealousy for someone who did put in the effort and did have the talent Jasper lacked in a Mayor way. When I joined, the band the sucked so bad, that my first instinct was to run far far away. But something made me stay, I learned later that it was something that Gert brought to the band.

Jasper was unbearable in waves, but the drummer was worse and that took some of the attention of Jasper.

A Few years ago we quit with that drummer, actually in quite an adult manner, we are still on speaking terms with him. He owns this great bar in Olland named: d’n Toel. It is quite impressive. We started with a new, much better drummer. But this put Jaspers failings much more in the spotlight. It became more and more clear that he was not pulling his own weight. More and more his parts in songs where written by Gert or Arnie. Besides that he looked like shit on stage costing us valuable points in contests and made big mistakes in this contests (and other gigs) which he would not correct. Which resulted in him playing complete solo’s in the wrong key, and than blaming one of us that our instruments where out of tune. Besides this he came each and every appointment we had (rehearsals, meetings with outsiders, meetings with the band, whatever) 30 minutes to 1,5 hour to late. But the worst thing about this was that he never accepted criticism about any of these points. He would get mad or shot us up with some creative bullshit. I’ve been talking about the importance of stage performance for years now and always he had some bullshit excuse why this didn’t apply to him.

Jasper is also always broke, he can smoke, he can buy a new car and decorate a new home, but he cant pay his part in making the new CD, or in entering fees for big contests and so on and so on. He even called off rehearsals because he couldn’t afford to gas up his car. Everything paid for came from the pockets of the other four. He wouldn’t even invest in his own equipment (like making sure he could performer wireless)

Than the big Emergenza gigs at 013 came up. And none of the band members worked as hard as I did to get enough audience with us to all three gigs to make it to the Benelux finals. The first gig the big egotistic basterd refused to help Gert carry something to the stage (Gert had to carry, keyboard and guitar stuff and needed just a bit of help), once more being a jealous peace of shit. This put us all so on edge that the gig almost got cancelled. The second gig he sold even less tickets.

The third gig I worked my ass of getting as much friends, and friends of friends to the gig as could possibly muster. For each person that came, I got turned down at least twice on others but I kept going.

Than on that big finale night, the asshole is making mistake after mistake because he is nervous, if he would have practiced he would not have to worry so much. But if you don’t invest and don’t practice than it is not strange that doing a big gig makes you nervous because YOU REALY ARE NOT BLOODDY FUCKING READY FOR IT.

We did not make it in the jury part of the contest because of our lacking stage performance. I’m very sure they where not talking about me. I’m also very sure that the two solo’s Jasper fucked up didn’t help either. The arrogant asshole had the guts to say it wasn’t his fault once again. He never points the finger at himself and never works on improving himself.

So on the 21th of this month we kicked the asshole out of the band. I had more than enough of him and I was not alone in this. Even than he acted surprised like we never ever told him. The thing is we told him time after time, but he just didn’t listen. He actually is so arrogant that it really didn’t register. It took 1,5 hour to get the point trough that we where trough with him. The only reason we didn’t kick him out sooner was because we feared that Arnie would leave with him and we are really glad with what Arnie brings to the band on all fields. Arnie actually attempted to find a way to give Jasper some time to better his ways, but I wouldn’t stand for it. I had enough and can’t bring myself to suffer that asshole one more day.

After we got rid of Jasper the arrogant asshole with no talent we received some hate mail. The first one made me laugh. Jasper’s Girlfriend Nikky send us the following:

Let me tell you about this sad bitch. She is a real Yoko Ono type of girl. Always meddling attempting to make her man important (which of course didn’t work because he really sucks in each and every way). At same time she always demanded him to choose between her and us, only adding to the fact that he didn’t pull his own weight in the band. But here comes the Joke, she tells us we are respectless but she has been a moth in Afrika working on some peace core project fucking an other guy. She didn’t leave Jasper because the other guy didn’t want the wining slut back here in the Netherlands. And that nitwit has the guts to call us respectles and small. Even now I cant stop laughing.

The Second mail we got was from a guy called Oscar. He must be an idiot because I cant even guess what half his mail is about.

Zo jammer dat jullie je zelf heroes noemen, als je niet eens iemand recht in zijn gezicht durft te zeggen wat je over hem denkt, maar hem gewoon met een kut smoes de band uit gooit. I told him in so many ways as I could think of, it just never registered

Hebbben jullie eindelijk een goede basis om echt groot te worden, gaan we bang doen dat de enige met echt aangeboren talent solo verder gaat. Talent????, Please dont make me lauch. He cant play a solo in key, he cant write his own riffs and parts, he looks like crap on stage, His face looks like he kissed a freight train, he puts no effort into anything and that shows. If he had talent he would get away with half those points. I wish he would have gone solo and saved my the head aches and maybe given us the chance to actually win Emergenza.

Dan ben je in mijn ogen geen hero, maar zero. Get the name right nitwith. Have a Go Hero actually implies that we are not heroes at all.

Wat ik niet kan begrijpen is dat jullie niet gewoon de waarheid hebben gesprokken, maar er alleen maar om heen draaien. Al anderhalf jaar lang. Echte vent hoor.

Read the above, we told him time after time, his gigantic ego never caught on to it. I’ve been telling him for the last three years, the last 1,5 years is how long I’ve been fed up with him. I just didn’t act because I don’t want to lose Arnie, the guitarist who actually does have talent.

This is what I wanted to say. We have quite a few good guitarist willing to take his place. I really feel freed and finally have real hope for our band.

Butraped by the music industry

As many of you know, my band has conquered a spot opening for Stevie Ann. Something we have been looking forward to and working ahead to. Well 'has'....... I should say HAD a spot, as in past tense.

Today I received a call from the booker of 'het Kasteel'. It seems that the management off Stevie Ann has decided to book one act for eight gigs opening for Stevie Ann. One of those gigs is Het Kasteel. Despite all of the bookers efforts he got the choice between Stevie ann with support picked by the manager or no Stevie Ann.
Now I should add that opening for Stevie Ann was something we won more than a Year ago in the Rijn en Wouden Popprijs. Actually we won opening for Van Dik Hout, but that got canceled because the organization of the Popprijs didn't have their shit together.
As reconciliation we where offered the spot before Stevie Ann. Everything seemed to be going all right and we got the go-ahead to start promoting this event. So we told all our friends, posted it on our website, and so on, and so on.
Now we have to suffer a great loss of face, because not only have we lost the biggest gig on our schedule, but also we have to hope that people will believe we never made up the part about opening for <sarcasm>Miss Ann</sarcasm>

As sorry as Joost (the booker) is about this all, it still is the bitchslap from hell. All 16 apologies from Joost did not help that. I had all my hopes on this opening act to get our foot in the door of the slightly better venues. As things are now, we don't get booked because we're not signed and not getting signed because we are not getting enough Gigs. It's hard to describe how desperate I'm feeling right now. We just lost our most important selling point we had going for ourselves.

I'm so sure that we really got the right formula. The music is good. Our performance if improving. So WHAT THE HELL IS FUCKING WRONG WITH US THAT WE JUST DONT GET THE CHANCE WE FUCKING DESERVE.

Joost (the booker) was quite ashamed and is checking out if there is something he can do for us. We’ll see. The Ideas he had where good, but Right now I got to see it before I believe it.

Revisiting friends

Gig update

We play as the sixth band on the moonstock festival. We start at 20:00.

Weer bereiken de Have a Go Heroes een nieuw wapen feit.

Het is nu officieel bevestigd dat HAGH op 17 November in het voorprogramma van Stevie Ann mag spelen. Dit optreden gaat plaats vinden in Het Kasteel in Alphen a/d Rijn. Het is natuurlijk Needles to say dat ik erg trots hierop ben.

De gewonnen wedstrijden van de afgelopen tijd waren natuurlijk al een duidelijk hint dat we op de goede weg zaten (en de verloren wedstrijd waar we toch ruimschoots de meeste publieks stemmen hadden), maar het word alleen maar beter.

Nu eerst spelen we vanavond in ’t Oude Pothuys in Utrecht

En daarna de videoclips opnemen bij Wonder why I’m Sleeping en The Meaning of Blue. De baspartijen en drumpartijen staan al op band, als de geluidsopname af zijn, reizen we af naar Hilversum.

Uber the Summoning aka the Uber Summoning

Amongst my friends I seem to be one of the few who always has enjoyed the Summoning. They are not always perfect, but shit just does happen. It happens to everyone on time or an other. It stinks (yes even yours) and usually is just a bit more sticky than one would like in these kinds of situations.

I’ve been playing my character Inukai Mori’gil for longer than I can remember. That is: if I tried I would probably remember when I first started paying this character but I do not want to invest in that right now. I will tell you that he was a badly thought trough backup character that stuck around. His personality is my own, but that without restrictions. And his background was stolen directly from the pages of the forgotten realms setting of Dungeons and Dragons.

As my first char was a loyal faction follower I thought it would be nice to stay out of the faction and start playing the guilds. This was a smart thing to do.

Last weekend my guild reached 70 members. Of course some died so I’ll be left with more than 60. That still makes the guild bigger than most factions.

This Summoning started of slow, I started doing the guild administration (working trough the members, attendance and ranking lists). Slower than normal bits of the main Plot started dripping in.

We got a new Item, A shield that could not be destroyed. But the shield was a trap. Together with the Book of Saints and the Sword Sarcasto the formed a force that bound all that swore to the book to the demon Historicus. And so it was that all members of the guild who sworn to the book where transferred to a other plain where this demon had full control over us. That is we had to abbey his every command, but as long as he didn’t command us not to do something we still could do it. After we had ‘fought’ this control as much as we could we where forced to fight amongst each other. One on one as long as it took to find out which one member was the best warrior. After first selection, many good warriors where already gone and few of us remain. I had defeated al my opponents as swiftly as I could (none of my fights took over 20 seconds) and it was down to Nashino and me. This fight took me longer but not that much. And within a minute I was the champion of my own guild. I demanded that the others where send home before my fight. To my surprise the demon complied. Somehow it was open to demands made by me. After this I had to fight the demons champion. This guy was really good. This time I had to fight for my life, the fight took a long time as two opponents where feeling for weaknesses in the others defenses. At times minutes went by without eighter of us making a move. As this fight went on, the guild members who where send back to the Vortex where attempting to break the demons hold by destroying all the items. With the help of faction light they succeeded. This moment fell together with the exact moment that I killed the Champion. Wile my blade was in the champions torso I got teleported to the Vortex as well. To bad. No shot at taking down the demon for me.

Back on the vortex many things happened of which a lot only annoyed me. Especially everything around the merchands guild annoyed the crap out of me. There where times when I considered beating its members into the ground with oc means. Few people succeed in making you feel that sorry about saving their lives.

But the part that blew my mind: I’ve been carrying the blades of Avril for some time now. Avril was one of Inukai’s best friends in live and the champion of darkness. Because of my link to Avril trough the blades I became a target for darkness. The wanted me to join or die.

On the first night of this summoning I was supposed to give my answer. But they did not come. On the second night they didn’t come and allowed me to meet the child of light. Talking to him I learned more, and in his dept for saving my guild from the grip of a demon I confided in him. He told me to meet him just before he would return to the altar of the gods.

As the final battle raged on the battlefield I met the child of light at the altar where he spoke to me with the Help of Gesu, the one priest I really trust. They spoke to me of remembrance of my fallen friend. How I saw him and how I wanted to see him. They told me what the blades at my side where and what the could be used for. The would disgrace the memory of Avril in most horrific ways, therefore I chose to break the link between the blades and Avril. But in doing that I would also break the link between myself and Avril.

As the Child cleansed the first blade it resisted, and fought. But at a time the blades resistance broke and the blade settled on the altar it was clean. However, the child had used to much energy to clean the second blade and I offered to help.

As the child started to clean the second blade I became the focus point of the pain. I remembered Avril as he fought to hold on to what once was his blade. This fight was worse than the last one, but as pain flowed trough me, so did memories. And I spoke to Avril of the dreams we had when we where young and did not even know what the vortex was.

As I spoke of the salt sea air and the wind in our sails the resistance broke as if Avril remembered who he was and where he came from. The blade settled on the altar as I saw the Forsaken (Avrils lost ship) sail to a horizon with a light in it. Fleeing form dark clouds, but not yet out of their grip. As the salt sea smell entered my nose I (Inukai) realized for the first time that Avril was really dead.

As the two sword returned to being tools in stead of a link I cried. The child of light cried and Gesu of the priest guild cried. For Inukai this is the start of a new quest. Finding al the items that bind Avril’s soul to the darkness and breaking the links so that he might be free.

Also Inukai has found a new goal in his life. A way to grow beyond the fighter he is. Inukai wil embrace the pad of Couladin. The young god. As such Inukai wil become the voice of Couladin in the priests guild. According to Tobias who leads the priest guild this choice makes Inukai a Paladin. Go figure that.

Ik heb hier nog niet over geschreven omdat gewoonweg teveel mensen mijn livejournal lezen, maar de laatste paar dagen zijn erg zwaar geweest. Ik heb echt vreselijk geslapen, wat me wel weer de tijd heeft gegeven om goed na te denken over wat er aan zat te komen.

In iedere band komt er een tijd dat de leden moet praten over het ene ding dat mensen in beesten verandert. Geld.

Dit gespek is niets matrealistisch, het gaat over credits, respect en erkenning. Het is ook een gesprek dat slechts zelden met succes gevoerd kan worden als er al geld op tafel ligt. Sterker nog: weinig bandjes die het punt bereiken dat er over geld gesproken moet worden (zelfs waneer er nog geen geld op tafel ligt) overleven dit moment.

Dit is het moment waarop ego’s botsen.

Eigenlijk had ik hier een heel stuk over de aanleiding van dit gebeuren geschreven, maar ik kwam tot de conclusie dat dit eigenlijk niks toevoegde.

Wel wil ik zeggen dat het een stevig gesprek is geweest waaruiteindelijk en voorstel uit is gekomen waar vier van de vijf leden zich in kunnen vinden. Helaas heeft het vijfde lid nog iets meer tijd nodig. In principe kan hij zich niet vinden in het voorstel. Nu heeft de band eerst zomer reces, in augustus beginnen we weer en zullen we ook ontdekken wat het vijfde lid gaat doen (ik laat even in het midden wie het vijfde lid is). Dan gaan we of door, of audities doen. A.U.B. geen reacties hierop op de band site of de hyve.

Ik hoop dat ook het vijfde lid in zal zien dat de overeenkomst zoals die er ligt erg redelijk is en besluit door te gaan, maar de toekomst zal uitwijzen wat het wordt.

Ik kijk uit naar een echte nacht slaap.

Emergenza en 013 na een dag van bezinning.

Het afgelopen weekend moet een van de vreemste weekende van mijn leven zijn. Ik maak nu muziek in bandjes sinds ik 15 jaar oud was. Een sinds ik voor het eerst een podium op ging, ik denk dat ik 16 was, ben ik niet meer zo zenuwachtig geweest voor een optreden als de afgelopen twee weken.

Het alles of niets gevoel heeft mijn leven wel een beetje overheerst deze dagen

Tijdens de laatste repetitie speelde ik mijn middelvinger kapot. Dit gebeurt wel vaker, maar nog nooit terwijl er zoveel op het spel stond. Gelukig had mijn moeder een oplossing: Compeed blaarplijsters. Deze dingen zijn bij deze door mij heilig verklaard. Dat in combinatie met een gigantische dosis pijn stillers (iets meer dan de voorgeschreven maximum dosering) zorgde er voor dat ik zowel 15 als 16 Juni op kon treden.

Allebei de dagen waren wedstrijden. Allereerst 15 Juni. De finale voor een plaats op BestFest (1 september 2007). Helaas speelde we voor een lege zaal omdat we iedereen al uitgenodigd hadden voor de grote zaal van 013. Ook de andere bands hadden geen publiek bij en de PR vanuit de organisatie was nihil. Maar we rockte. Het was een heerlijke warmdraaier voor ons grote optreden.

Have a Go Heroes won de Jury prijs en speelt dus op BestFest. Omdat er geen publiek was om de publieksprijs te uit te reiken heeft de jury het voorstel gedaan alle drie de bands door te laten gaan naar BestFest waar we dan ieder 30 minuten krijgen i.p.v. 45 minuten voor twee bands. Omdat wij toch niet de kwaadste zijn, zijn we hiermee accoord gegaan. Dit optreden was erg geruststellend, ik wist zeker dat we klaar waren voor 013 en heb dus heerlijk geslapen.

Van zenuwachtig was ik gegaan naar een heerlijke natuurlijke High. Helemaal klaar voor de grote show. Na de soundcheck kregen we te horen dat we als laatste band speelde. Hiermee liepen we het risico dat we voor minder publiek zouden staan maar we kregen wel de toezegging dat we een toegift mochten doen als alles op schema lag. We waren de tweede band die de sound-check deed, dus voor ons volgde een echte lange tijd wachten. Tijd die besteed hebben met het rondhangen in het centrum van Tilburg en het bouwen van onze merchandising stand. (tot een uur of 18.00) gevolgd door meer wachten. Een voor een druppelde vrienden en familie binnen. In het begin kocht nog niemand iets. Maar in de tijd daarna (ik was aan het rondwandelen) zijn er toch heel veel shirts verkocht. Meer hierover verderop in dit verhaal.

Uiteindelijk naderde ons tijdstip om te spelen. Dus we zijn backstage gegaan en hebben een kleedkamer leeggeruimd van rondhangende muzikanten van andere bands zodat wij ons konden gaan voorberijden. Helaas was het bij de kleedkamers niet rustig te krijgen waardoor we uiteindelijk in de loading dock van 013 terecht zijn gekomen. Toen ging het vlug.

Op het moment dat wij het podium op liepen begon de zaal te juichen. Echt supergaaf. Ik had me voorgenomen niet te snel de zaal in te kijken om mezelf niet zenuwachtig maken, maar met dit gejuig moest ik echt even kijken. Ik zag een zee van mensen met de tekst Hero op hun borst (onze shirts). Dit was echt een kippenvel moment.

Natuurlijk gingen er weer dingen mis. Ik had geen signaal van mij draadloze zet naar de versterker, wat even voor paniek zorgde maar vlug opgelost werd. En toen konden we los.

Op dat moment liep het optreden als een trein (op de opname naderhand hoorde ik toch wel erg veel fouten). Maar het was wel moeilijk. Al in het tweede nummer speelde ik mijn blaar pleister kapot, en daarna liet er tijdens het optreden steeds meer vel van mijn vinger los. De laatse twee nummers was echt verbijten om door de pijn heen te kunnen spelen. Het publiek uit hun dak horen gaan was fantastisch. Er werd op een gegeven moment zelfs meegezongen. Dit maakte alles de moeite waard

Helaas werd de beloofde toegift ons weer ontnomen door de presentator die zo slecht Engels sprak dat ik niet eens met hem in discussie kon.

Vervolgens was het de zaal in en weer wachten, maar nu op de jury. Toen we de zaal binnen kwamen werden we weer met groot gejuich ontvangen. Echt een kick. Helaas kwam daarna de klap. We zaten bij de laatste acht bands die door de vakjury beoordeeld zouden worden. Toen begon men de lijst op te lezen van acht naar een, daar kwam de klap toen we op nummer vijf onze naam hoorde. Ik had echt verwacht dat we verder zouden komen. Om ons heen stonden familie en vrienden. Toen ik op hun gezichten ook dezelfde teleurstelling zag die ik voelde, werd het me teveel en moest ik weg om niet terplekke in janken uit te barsten. Vooral dat iedereen stil werd, het leek alsof de helezaal verstomde voordat er een aantal mensen de jury uit begonden te joulen.

Toen ik terug kwam stonden veel van deze mensen nog te wachten en kreeg ik schouderklopjes en knuffels. Het was echt fantastisch. Helaas kon dit de teleurstelling (nog) niet drukken. Emergenza is voor ons voorbij, we gaan niet naar Duitsland.

Na het horen van de opnamen besef ik me dat we beter hadden kunnen spelen. Ik heb fouten gemaakt door de pijn aan mijn hand. Jasper zat er een paar keer helemaal langs. Ik weet niet of dat aan de zenuwen lag of aan het lange wachten.

Er waren wel een paar leuke opbeur momentjes. Een van deze momenten was de camaraman van RTL4 (die volgden NineVolt, de winnaar uit Amsterdam door het hele emergenza gebeuren, de uitzending is maandag in 4inhetland) die liet weten compleet verbaasd te zijn dat wij niet bij de laatste twee bands zaten. Ninevolt zat hier wel bij, en hij had ons daar ook verwacht.

Ook Jeroen (de emergenza promotor verantwoordelijk voor Nederland en Belgie) liet weten dat de uitslag hem volledig verbaasd heeft. Hij vond dat de Jury zeer vreemde beslissingen genomen had.

Toch geprobeerd om zo snel mogelijk naar huis te kunnen en uiteindelijk weg dacht ik niet te kunnen slapen. Ik heb thuis een DVD aangezet en ben vrijwel meteen op de bank in slaap gevallen. tien minuten later werd ik wakker en ben ik maar naar bed gegaan. Om vanmorgen met een kater wakker te worden (en dat zonder een druppel alcohol in mijn bloed). Met tegenzin de computer aangezet en toch nog even naar de emergenza site. Iets dat ik het afgelopen half jaar toch bijna dagelijks had gedaan. Mischien dat er Jury raporten opstonden, zodat ik kon zien hoe deze eikels tot dit besluit waren gekomen. Tot mijn verbazing vind ik iets anders. Emergenza heeft niet de Jury uitslag gepost, maar de uitslag van de stemmen van het publiek.

Ik kan maar een ding zeggen.

Iedereen die erbij was: Heel heel heel erg ongelofelijk bedankt. Gert zei het al aan het einde van ons optreden: ‘Jullie zijn te gek, jullie zijn echt helden’. En dat kan ik alleen benadrukken. Jullie zijn mijn helden. We hebben echt een morele overwinning dankzij jullie. We moeten maar eens gaan kijken naar een manier om jullie allemaal bedanken.

Alle gave reackties op LJ's maken dat ik nu alweer zin heb om ergens anders gewoon te gaan klappen. Alle reacktie die ik gevonden heb en die nog niet in mijn vriendenlijst stonden heb ik toegevoegd. Als je ergens nog meer reackties tegen komt, geef me dan even een tip. Ik wi ze erg graag allemaal lezen.

Van zoveel van jullie heb ik al gehoord dat jullie het echt gaaf vinden (niet alleen omdat ik in dit bandje zit). Ik wil daarom ook iedereen oproepen die graag op de hoogte blijft om even contact met me op te nemen. Dan gaan we zorgen dat er een mailing list komt. Onze zanger maakt deze dan op een manier dat de veiligheid van jullie e-mail adressen gewaarborgd is.

Half way there

Inmiddels hebben 33 mensen laten weten dat ze zeker op 16 juni naar 013 komen. Nog 27 te gaan en dan heb ik mijn 60 kaartjes verkocht. Op het moment heb ik 12 mensen die nog niet zeker zijn of ze komen.

Helaas heb ik ook een paar teleurstellende afmeldingen. Ik snap het wel, maar vind het erg jammer dat deze mensen niet komen want ze hebben nog nooit een ‘Have a Go Heroes’ show gezien en hun mening betekend erg veel voor mij.

De spanning neemt toe. Naast alle semifinalisten uit Tilburg doen ook de finalisten uit Amsterdam en België mee.

Ik moet zeggen dat ik me wel zorgen maak over ‘Ninevolt’. Die gasten klinken wel erg strak.

Het lijkt me zo gaaf om op dat Taubertal festival te mogen spelen. Ik hoop dat er genoeg mensen komen om dat mogelijk te maken.

Zoals het er nu uitziet gaan we een bus uit Leiden laten rijden en een bus uit Utrecht. (dat kunnen we vanaf 30 man)

Ik hoop dat veel mensen komen en dat die mensen gewoon nog meer mensen meememen.

Hoe dan ook. Grote zaal 013 is en blijft al erg gaaf om te mogen spelen.

WOW WAT EEN SPANNING

Wow wat ben ik opgefokt. We hebben de info voor de emergenza finale binnen.
We moeten het ongelofelijke aantal van 300 kaartjes zien te verkopen. Ik weet niet of dat haalbaar gaat zijn. Dat zijn 60 kaartjes per bandlid, en ik weet nu al dat de gitaristen weer niet 100% zullen geven voor de verkoop. Dus ik zal zeker 100 kaartjes moeten verkopen. Ik weet niet hoe ik dat voor elkaar moet krijgen.
Om alles nog erger te maken kosten de kaartjes ook nog eens €12,-.
Ik ga in iedergeval weer ieder 10e kaartje gratis weg geven. Dus alle kaartjes kosten €10,80.
Daarnaast gaan we kijken of we een keer het spel 'Guitar Hero' kunnen krijgen om te verloten onder iedereen die een kaartje koopt. Ik hoop dat dit gaat lukken en dat het mensen een extra reden geeft te komen.

Ik breek me het hoofd over andere iedeeën.

Ik dacht dat de grote zaal van de 013 al gaaf zou zijn, maar als we nu winnen mogen we spelen op het taubertal festival in duitsland.
25.000 bezoekers, WOW.

Een tijdje terug wonnen we de publieksprijs van de Rijn en Wouden popprijs.
We hebben al twee rondes in emergenza gewonnen,
We hebben al een ronde voor Best Fest gewonnen.

Ik begin gewoon te geloven dat we het mischien wel kunnen halen.

Heeft iemand nog meer goede ideeën? (zou het bijv helpen als we cheapo T-shirts weg gaan geven bij de kaartjes?)
Wie willen er allemaal komen om mij en mijn bandje verder te helpen.

The Bad, The Good, The Good and some more Good

First the Bad:

The Pain in my elbow is Gout. It can hurt like hell and I’m stuck with it for the rest of my life. I got meds that I’ll never get rid of again and they make me fulltime groggy. But the effect of not taking them is risking another attack, and that is way worse.

The Good stuff.

I had a sort of Inturn day with an other team of an other unit of my Job. After half a day they where so impressed that they offered me a Job. I’m seriously considering it. Not everything in my current job is going as I would like.

One of the harnesses I made for a Client has won a prize on this weekends Dumnoni (best costume), Taking in consideration the high standards on this event, I must admit that I’m really proud of this result.

I have bought a Sennheiser EW 172 G2 wireless system for my bass. I’ve always shunned these systems because I feared signal loss. But with Emergenza coming up on the main stage of 013, I felt I needed my freedom of movement. Today I tried out my new system in the rehearsal. To my surprise I found that my signal was coming in stronger that it ever had with cables. I’m very excited, and I’ll be making lots of use of my new toy.

Pain and Joy

Last Friday my right arm was already ‘not all that’, but it was not standing in the way of performing. Though when I wend home that night I had trouble carrying my guitar case.

Saturday we went paintballing and I had so much fun that I was paying no attention to my arm (or to be more specific, my elbow). I had planned to where a brace, but I left it at home.

Still (to get sidetracked for a bit) paintballing was great. With eleven friends shooting the crap out of each other. So I used 600 paintballs in less than three hours. So there where people who shot less than 200.

I made some great shots. Hunting down the VIP (mark), I made this great Headshot on Lenny, only one minute into the game. I saw the orange vest marking the VIP and figured I take shot (or five). Of course I missed but than I saw this one hand coming up behind one of the palisades (signal for hit, and out of the game). Followed by the mask with the big pink splash over one of the eyes. I’m sorry for it, but I just couldn’t stop laughing.

But back on Track.

The paintball session was not doing wonders for my elbow. Driving home it hurt like ^%^$#&#$&*(&. But I figured I just overstrained it and that a night of sleep would do wonders. I was wrong.

The next day I went to janestarz and nokey for Pathfinder meet (either you know what I’m talking about, or you don’t). Another fun day with me not paying as much attention to my elbow as I should. Playing with souls is fun. Brotherhood of wolves is also fun (and inspiring for costumes).

On the way home my elbow was hurting so much I had to stop twice to give it some rest.

This morning I could not use my arm at all, Because of the pain I also had slept for crap. So I went to the doctor, got some pills and called my dad for support because I could not change Senne’s diapers in the state I was in.

J. went to work and my dad came to help out.

During the day my arm got worse, and I went back to the doctor. Who in turn send me to the hospital for x-rays and blood testing. So tomorrow I hope to learn what the hell is wrong with my arm.

In the mean time Senne has been having a ball. She’s been Giddy all day, laughing and playing. Working grandpa into a sweat. And making me a bit jealous by getting all this attention wile I’m not even able to pick her up.

Even this evening, I went to check four times to see what was happening in her room. As it turned out, she was still having a ball, playing with her toys, talking to them and crowing of joy. I realy love this little girl.

WOW wat een trip.

159 stemmen, ongelofelijk. De avond begon al goed. Na een lekkere soundcheck heeft de band lekker de tijd genomen. Even Chillen, omkleden en terug naar 013. De eerste bandje van de avond kijken, god wat waren ze weer slecht. Pas bij nummer drie begon het ergens op te lijken. Ann O’nymous zet een lekker set neer en worden dan ook geheel niet onterecht 2^e van de avond. Hellaas kon ik de set niet afluisteren, omdat het tijd werd voor ons om voor bereidingen te treffen voor onze set. Op mijn gemak backstage stemmen en f f twee liedjes unpluged in de kleedkamer doen om in de mood te komen.

En dan het podium op. Wij waren de 5^e band van de avond en voor ons liep de zaal helemaal vol. We hadden deze keer voor een set gekozen die rustig begon en opbouwde naar een climax. Het publiek ging los, en daardoor ik ook.

Ik zou natuurlijk in detail kunnen gaan over het optreden, maar ik moet bekennen dat ik daar nu helemaal niet mee bezig ben.

We hebben ook de nieuwe cd voor het eerst verkocht vanavond en deze gingen als zoete broodjes over de balk. Het was vooral erg gaaf om mensen naar je toe te zien komen om hun cd te tekenen. Ik heb mijn best gedaan om in alle cd’s iets origineels te schrijven.

Wij hebben verpletterend gewonnen. En daardoor mogen we op 16 juni in de grote zaal van de 013 spelen. Dat is een droompje dat uitkomt. Een serieus podia met kans op serieuze aandacht van de industrie die volgens de organisatie van Emergenza goed vertegenwoordigd gaat zijn.

De grote zaal geeft mij wel een groot probleem. Op dat podium ga ik het nooit redden met mijn actie radius van 6 meter. Dus ik zal moeten investeren in een draadloos systeem voor mijn bass.

Oh……

Ik heb zo vreselijk veel zin in dat optreden. En ik ben echt gek op ons publiek. Ik weet niet wat ik mogelijkerwijs kan doen om deze mensen te tonen wat het voor mij betekend dat zij ons gaaf vinden en ik weet al helemaal niet hoe ik ze kan bedanken voor het weer afreizen naar Tilburg en op ons te stemmen.

Jullie zijn allemaal fantastisch

I made a leather killing today.

Bought quite a lot of suede en some verry nice Nubuc.
And all for dumb prices. (about 11 skins for the price of 3)

Now all I need is two complete skins good looking black suede and two good looking complete bordeau red skins for a special project for myself.

I'm verry happy with this.

Vechten tegen de bierkaai

Voor emergenza hadden we 150 kaarten.
Er was een leuke verdeling gemaakt, de mensen die van het verst komen de minste kaarten en de mensen uit de regio de meeste kaarten.

Twee weken terug dacht ik nog maar 6 kaarten te hebben. Hellaas bleek een van de gitarisen er nog 20 te hebben, dus met 26 kaarten ben ik verder gegaan.
Vandaag had ik nog 14 kaarten over (van de 26) om te horen dat de andere gitarist slechts tussen de 12 en de 19 kaarten verkocht heeft. Dat terwijl mij vorige week nog gegarandeerd werd dat hij er zeker twintig kwijt was en er slechts nog 5 te gaan had. Dit brengt de stand dus op 20 tot 27 kaarten over. De drummer had alle dertig kaarten verkocht, maar kreeg er twee op het laatste moment terug wat de stand op 22/29 brengt.
Ik krijg de zanger niet te pakken, maar het laatste nieuws was dat hij verwachte alle 25 kaarten die hij had kwijt te raken. Ik kan alleen maar hopen dat het ook gelukt is dit voor elkaar te krijgen.
Ik heb op het moment 51 kaarten verkocht en ik heb nog drie twijfelaars uit staan.

In het kort, Ik ben boos.
Ik heb er zo vreselijk veel werk in zitten om zoveel mogelijk kaarten te verkopen, om dan te ontdekken dat een paar anderen er amper moeite voor gedaan lijken te hebben.

Dus alle vrienden.
Ik heb nog zeker 25 kaarten, waarschijnlijk zelfs 30 voor de verkoop.
Is er iemand die me nog kan helpen?

Manny of you do get it some of you don’t. It’s not often that I ask for help or support but I do right now.

On 23th of march we (my band; Have a Go Heroes) have a chance to make it to the finals of Emergenza. If we make it to these finals we have the chance to play in Germany for 25.000 people. This would mean fulfilling my dreams in music. I’ve always stated that if I would ever get to play in front of 10.000 people, I would have achieved all that I wanted to achieve in music.

To get that chance I need the help of all my friends. It is the audience who decides which bands make it to the finals. I’ve been telling everyone that all I want is do play in ‘the choice’ (grote zaal) of 013. But the fact of the matter is that I’m talking it down because I’m so afraid that we wont make it, that I do not dare to say out loud what that would mean to me.

It would mean that we will not play the finals in the choice, as a matter of a fact that doesn’t really matter.

What does matter is that when we do not play ‘the choice’ we will not have a shot at Germany, at playing for 25.000 people. I can’t imagine the feeling of 25.000 people watching us play, but it is something that I’ve been dreaming about ever since I went to a festival for the first time.

To make it there we need the help of every friend we can get. We have already arranged for a coach to ride from Leiden because may people are coming from there only to give more people the chance to come.

Tomorrow we will learn how much the coach will cost, for now the costs are estimated on € 15,- per person (which is less than the € 27,- euro’s a round-trip Leiden-Tilburg will cost).

I do not like to grovel or beg, but for once it is worth it.

Help us make it to the finals, give me my chance at 25.000 people. Come on the 23th of march to 013 and vote for us. We play on 21:30 in the ‘kleine zaal’.

For the second time Have a Go Heroes will be playing in 013, Tilburg. This time we will be playing the ‘kleine zaal’.

20 October we won our place in the semifinals with no small thanks to the help of many friends who showed up and voted for us.

In October I dared not to hope that we would coma any further than that evening, but with all the recent successes my hopes are high. This will be our chance to make a impact. If we win in these semifinals (a second place will do) we will be playing in the Benelux finals with a chance on the European Finals in Germany.

The thing is that without the help of our friend we don’t stand a chance.

To make our dreams come true we need all the support we can get. So come to ‘013’ on march 23. We will be playing at 21.30. You can ask those who have been there on 20 October 2006 that it will be worth your time.

For those of you who have been there on 20 October, we will have our new EP with us on the 23 of march. It will be available for €5,- per cd.

It is impossible to explain how important this is to me. It was fantastic (and that is a understatement) to see all of you in October, I hope to see all of you again in march, tell your friends, and ask them to come as well.

We have 150 tickets available for friend against reduced prices (€10,- each, If we sell enough we might be able to bring the price down a bit). We don’t make any money on the ticket sales.

Have a Go Heroes staat op de 4e plaats in de ultieme TOP40 van ongekend Talent.

Ik heb vandaag naar de andere songs geluisterd in die top40 en die zijn bar en bar slecht. Ik weet zeker dat zij de TOP40 niet gehaald hebben door neutrale stemmen.
